Stop using these 20 drugs that cause memory loss

Unfortunately, drug side effects are the leading cause of death in the United States. Prescription drugs are responsible for more than 100,000 deaths and more than 1.5 million hospitalizations for serious side effects each year.

Three types of prescription drugs can cause many cognitive problems, including memory loss:

Sleeping pills often cause memory loss, causing a coma or a state resembling drunkenness. Therefore, it does not restore the sleep that the body needs to heal itself.

For example, the popular drug Ambien is known as an “amnesiac” because it can cause hallucinations, night terrors, drowsiness, and sleep driving.

statin drugs
These drugs are the most damaging to the brain and are used to control cholesterol levels. This is because the brain has ¼ cholesterol, which is necessary for thinking, memory and learning. However, they cause memory loss and similar side effects.

“Anti Drugs”
Antihistamines, antibiotics, antidepressants, antipsychotics, antispasmodics, and antihypertensives all affect levels of acetylcholine in the body, a major neurotransmitter necessary for memory and learning.

Low levels can cause blurred vision, memory loss, dementia, delirium, confusion and hallucinations.

Mount Richard S. Morse, former associate chairman of the Department of Psychiatry at his Sinai College of Medicine, compiled the following list of his 20 memory-impairing drugs.

•Antibiotic (quinolone)
•Sleeping pills – Ambien, Lunesta, Sonata
•Painkillers – morphine, codeine, heroin.
•chemotherapy drugs
•Epilepsy – dilantin or phenytoin
•Barbiturates – Nembutal, Phenobarbital, Seconal, Amital.
•Antipsychotics – Meraryl, Haldol.
•Parkinson’s disease – atropine, glycopyrrolate, scopolamine
•Benzodiazepines – Xanax, Valium, Dalman, Ativan.
•Beta blockers
•high blood pressure medicine
•tricyclic antidepressants

If you are taking any of these drugs, check with your doctor to see if they affect your memory. You can always find healthier alternatives, or at least other medications and lifestyle changes.

To reduce stress on your brain, you need to be more active, take supplements, and eat brain-healthy foods.

In general, staying sharp and healthy requires keeping your brain healthy.
